Civil -- Award of Merit: Clackamas County Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion
Clackamas County Water Environment Services not only picked a high-performance membrane bioreactor technology to expand wastewater treatment at this Oregon City facility; it did so within a small, indoor footprint. As the Pacific Northwest's largest MBR treatment plant running in parallel with conventional treatment, the Tri-City Facility expanded capacity from 8.4 mgd average daily wastewater flow to 11.9 mgd. While speeding up the design and permitting process to 10 months on the three-year, $89-million project, Portland-based MWH Global's vision also fit within the community. The facility complements surrounding developments with metal siding, a green roof, covered walkways, enclosed HVAC systems and a historic basalt wall.
