The COVID-19 pandemic certainly impacted Birmingham’s construction market in 2020, but a rebound appears to be on the way. “A large number of construction projects have recently kicked off or are in the planning stages,” Leaver says, adding that “investments have poured into the city.” Overall, the multifamily, mixed-use, distribution/warehousing and health care sectors are leading the comeback, Leaver says, and “developers appear optimistic about the return of dining, entertainment and certain retail sectors.”
