The East Infill Project expanded passenger-processing capabilities to prepare for a nine-gate expansion of the east concourse at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

The project added around 55,000 sq ft of space and reshaped the entrance to the airport with a multistory, more colorful terminal with windows. The ovoid shape of the building required the team to design and build everything on a radius.

Crews also had to use bullet-resistant panels and nine-gauge mesh in the secure walls to meet federal security-design standards, requiring a high level of coordination and collaboration.

During construction, the team utilized a “dance floor” scaffold system in order to reach the 55-ft ceiling. This system was integral for the team to finish the 22,000 sq ft of ceiling in a space with no interior columns.
