The nine-story, 366,778-sq-ft addition to the Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla was completed in November 2014. The exterior enclosure of glass, bricks and steel incorporates more than 130,000 hand-set bricks reaching 150 ft high, making this one of the tallest brick buildings constructed in San Diego in the past 15 years. The project team says its use of 3D coordination was particularly helpful for concrete pour cycles and the completion of the exterior skin.

Topped by a roof garden, the tower includes 108 single-patient rooms, 59 intensive care rooms, six operating rooms and four interventional labs. Crews also added a central utility plant, including emergency generators, cooling towers, chillers and boilers.
