Using broad industry knowledge base to mentor others

35, Preconstruction Manager
DPR Construction
Falls Church, Va.

With 14 years of experience in preconstruction, estimating, business development and project management, Gorthy has a broad knowledge of design and construction. He started his career as an estimator at Barton Malow, working on several projects each valued at more than $100 million. "Understanding a project's specific logistics and operations are keys to the budgeting process and helped me become a better estimator," he says. After joining DPR in 2003, he went into the field for two years and served as project manager on a $68-million headquarters and laboratory project for US Pharmacopeia in Rockville, Md. Since then, he has been promoted to preconstruction manager. Last year, Gorthy was one of 25 individuals in the firm selected to participate in its management training program. Today he is active in mentoring and growing the firm's next generation of leaders.
