This school serving more than 2,000 students and faculty members was aging and required multiple upgrades but had little in the way of as-built documentation. The team leveraged the use of laser scanning to better understand existing conditions, which proved invaluable to the many HVAC upgrades that were part of a deep energy retrofit. The project was supported by $800,000 worth of innovation-specific funding.

The new HVAC system needed to be installed into the mechanical mezzanine, which had structural constraints, so thorough coordination was required to plug the new system into the existing space. Every duct, fitting and conduit was prefabricated off site. The mechanical upgrades are expected to help cut energy use by nearly 40%. Additional upgrades included exterior window and door repairs, a roof replacement and renovated restrooms.
