Inspired by British architect Edwin Lutyens, the 55-key, 46,000-sq-ft Inn at Barnsley Resort complements the facility’s existing English-inspired architecture. The project, which included construction of the upscale three-story inn and neighboring Georgian Hall event space, expands the Adairsville, Ga., resort while maintaining its historic feel.

The resort features an octagonal rotunda with an adjacent communal gathering space and a grand staircase and impressive fireplace showcasing the resort’s Southern charm. Throughout, the inn features stained and hand-scraped hardwood floors along with exposed beams. Meanwhile, the guest rooms feature natural stone imported from Brazil, reclaimed wood flooring and sleek glass showers.

The Georgian Hall offers 19,000 sq ft of ballrooms, meeting rooms, a full-service kitchen and other amenities.

With 16 different room designs for its 55 keys, the boutique hotel challenged builders’ ability to meet the schedule. Choate Construction’s in-house virtual design and construction department surveyed the project before rooms were constructed. The contractor then created more than 100 field mock-ups that included everything from the exterior skins to the layout of the 16 room designs, plus furniture, fixtures and equipment. This enabled the owner and designers to see an exact replica of each space and make any changes before work began, thus helping to keep the project on schedule.
