Harrah’s Hotel New Orleans - Room Renovation Phase 2
New Orleans
Award of Merit

Owner: Caesars Entertainment Corp.
Lead Design Firm/Civil/MEP: Marnell Cos.
General Contractor: Ryan Gootee General Contractors

This $3.36-million fast-track hotel project renovated 11 floors of guest rooms and corridors, including luxury suites, meeting rooms, restrooms, registration areas and the ballroom. Its opening after Hurricane Katrina exemplified the city’s rebirth.

The timeline mandated that each floor—from teardown to completion—be completed in just two weeks, all while the hotel was nearly at full occupancy.

Team meetings began three months before construction, arranging tasks such as offsite prefabrication. Because the site, near a busy city intersection, had no laydown area, just-in-time deliveries had to be scheduled early in the morning before hotel cleaning staff began their shift rotation.

Protecting the comfort and safety of guests was vital. Paint fumes were reduced with a lower VOC paint primer introduced midway through the project. Loud construction tasks could only be done mid-morning and early afternoon.

The upgrades were completed within budget and on time for a September 2017 delivery.
