The Pioneers Medical Center is an 87,365-sq-ft, critical-access replacement hospital located on the outskirts of Meeker, Colo. The design creates an aesthetic character respectful of the past while providing modern health care amenities to the community. The region’s rich ranching, sporting and agricultural traditions influenced the visual character of the facility. Departments include a 30-bed, long-term-care unit; a 10-bed acute-care medical and surgical department; emergency department; mobile MRI dock; imaging; surgery; rehab; pharmacy; dietary; education; lab; laundry; and a community-care clinic.
Eighty percent of the subcontractors were Western Slope firms, and all hourly Haselden Construction employees were hired from the town of Meeker.
