A zoo habitat, an arts center, an art museum and a pair of federal buildings are among the construction work that captured top honors in ENR Midwest's Best Projects competition, an annual program recognizing outstanding design and construction in a variety of categories.

Crews working on Hilton Columbus Center Hotel, the Best Project winner in the residential/hospitality category, pre-assembled a bridge linking the facility to an adjacent convention center.

From scores of entries, a panel of industry professionals selected winning projects on the basis of quality, innovation, safety, contributions to the surrounding community and the ability of the project teams to overcome unique challenges. In all, projects were honored in categories ranging from airport/transit, health care and higher education to highways, interior design and offices.

Panelists also evaluated entries solely on the basis of safety, awarding top honors to the St. Louis Public Library and an award of merit to Wisconsin Energy Institute in Madison.

All the winning projects will compete against winners from other regions in ENR's national Best of the Best Projects 2013 competition.

ENR Midwest is indebted to panelists who not only donated their time to review submissions but also collaborated as a jury to select the winning projects. Congratulations to this year's winners.
