Sharing engineering insights with professionals and newcomers alike
Engineering has enabled Scala to combine her passions for construction and learning. After beginning her career with Lowy and Donnath as a project engineer, she earned a doctorate in engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where she researched building performance modeling and measurement with a keen interest in energy efficiency. Scala has shared her insights via published papers, conference publications and presentations to top professional organizations. While Scala’s project management experience spans healthcare, higher education, financial institutions and industrial facilities, it was the coronavirus outbreak in New York City that truly put her professional and leadership skills to the test. She and her team converted four-hundred new hospital beds at Mt. Sinai Beth Israel for covid-nineteen patients during the height of the pandemic. Scala also oversaw her firm’s quick pivot to remote work technologies without compromising project quality or teamwide communication. Scala is also committed to encouraging the next generation of engineers. She is a frequent speaker at Manhattan College’s Engineering Awareness camp, and is a proud supporter of NEW, which trains and assists women to successfully enter the building trades and achieve economic self-sufficiency.
