Entrepreneur creates jobs for disadvantaged people of color

During her nearly 15-years in the construction industry, Jennifer Todd has completed work in 13 states and managed the removal of more than 5 million square feet of hazardous materials. Todd, who was the youngest Black woman to be licensed as a General Engineering Contractor by the state of California, currently serves as president of the second construction company she’s founded to date, LMS General Contractors. Prior to that, following the 2011 tornado disaster in Birmingham, Alabama, Todd had founded Logic Management Solutions, a disaster recovery consulting firm. More recently, following the 2020 pandemic, the construction industry entrepreneur added COVID-19 disinfection services to LMS General Contractors’ portfolio of services, and in the process quickly earned two five-year federal contracts to perform this work. A strong advocate for job creation and employee development, Todd created her company’s Greener Tomorrow program, which promotes the advancement of unemployed and underemployed inner-city people of color. Says Todd: “For me, that means hiring and establishing living-wage careers for people who look like me.” Currently more than 30% of the company’s workforce is comprised of women.
