Nigeria has awarded Chinese contractor China Civil Engineering Construction a $5.8-billion contract to construct a 3,050-MW hydroelectric power plant at the Donga River in Tafara State.
The project has been on and off for more than 35 years as previous contracts fell through due to claims of high-level corruption and lack of political goodwill from top government leaders.
