Sweeya Tangudu
Senior VDC Engineer
DPR
Sweeya entered the construction industry six years ago. As a senior virtual design and construction (VDC) engineer at DPR Construction, she uses her background in architecture design and digital technology to support various-sized complex life science, commercial and data center projects. She focuses on reducing cost and schedule impacts by leveraging Building Information Modeling (BIM) and virtual development tools. She is passionate about creating value with digital systems, from a project’s conceptual design stage to post-construction building operations, and believes that VDC is integral to project success because it “takes the guesswork out and increases collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.”
When it comes to project delivery, DPR Construction believes that the use of technology provides measurably more value: predictable results, less rework and reduced risk. Sweeya’s project experience proves this ideology.
Let's talk about things beyond the tech-fueled world, appearance, gender barriers, and cultural differences. It is a step towards embracing the VDC personnel's presence as a strength and vital role to steer a project towards success instead of treating the VDC community as support. It is rather a debate between the perks of the virtual world compared to that of the real jobsite where the majority of the physical execution takes place. In recent times, VDC has proven to be a bridge between the two worlds. VDC is now considered a liaison between the design and the field operations, and it empowers women to feel inclusive in the day-to-day construction activities.
