NEW Graduate and Member of
Ironworkers Union, Metallic Lathers & Reinforcing Local 46
When she moved to New York City in 2011, Nani Noverita found herself homeless. Seeking opportunities to return to her teenage welding experience, Nani discovered Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW), and joined NEW’s training in 2012. As a graduate of NEW, Nani joined the Metallic Lathers and Reinforcing Ironworkers Local 46 in 2013. Over her career handling steel, reinforcing concrete, lathing, and plastering walls and ceilings, Nani has excelled as an ironworker, as a union sister and as an advocate. Nani completed the Local 46 apprentice program and became a journeywoman in 2016. In 2018, Nani moved her career to the west coast, where she has been involved in a number of exciting projects for various ironworker unions. Those projects include the Resort World Casino, the Las Vegas Stadium, and the Showcase on The Strip. Nani’s drive, determination, and “overcomer” mentality have all made it possible for her to create and run her own subcontracting company, Fluxotica, Inc. In her new role, Nani will continue not only to advance her career, but also the construction industry itself, enriching it with deeper and more plentiful career opportunities for women.
