Lunch Table Host: Best Practices for Launching an Employee Resource Group (ERG)

Laura Register, P.E., LEED®AP, F. GBA is a senior principal and vice president at Terracon Consultants, serving as national director for the company’s strategic healthcare business sector. In her role as national director, Laura builds teams across the company to develop and strengthen relationships with clients and peers within the sector. Working nationally with hundreds of healthcare owners, contractors, architects, and sub-consultants she grows awareness of and opportunity for strategic growth to build on Terracon’s long history of providing services to this prominent sector. Through all, she seeks to enhance her leadership of Terracon’s IIF/Incident and Injury Free mindset with our employee-owners and clients.

Laura is an advocate and leader for advancing women in their professions. She was elected to the 2021-22 board of directors for Women in Healthcare. Prior to ascending to the national board, she organized and became a founding board member of the organization’s Nashville Chapter. She is co-chair and founding member of Terracon’s Increasing Women in Leadership employee resource group, which launched in 2021 as Terracon’s first Employee Resource Group. Laura is the founder of AEC Power Women, a group dedicated to educating, showcasing, and connecting female leaders in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC). As the first female board member in the history of the Geoprofessional Business Association (GBA), Laura served as GBA’s President in 2016-17 and was elected to the GBA Council of Fellows in 2018. Laura was appointed by the Governor of Tennessee to serve the Tennessee Architectural and Engineering licensing board from 2013-17, as the first female engineer or architect to serve the board in its 100+ years. During her tenure, Laura was chair of the Board’s Engineering Committee.
