The standard for the design and construction of storm shelters referenced in the 2015 International Building Code has replaced the previously referenced standard.
Buildings or spaces designed as a shelter from tornadoes within the scope of the 2015 International Building Code must conform to certain requirements. The 2015 IBC® also mandates the construction of tornado shelters for all occupants of new k-12 schools, critical emergency operation centers, fire and police stations, and more.
