A data driven approach to design and construction helps feed the information base needed for risk-mitigating design reviews, efficient and accurate construction document management, and predictive analytics. All of the payoffs contribute to better project delivery, and with many companies now investing significant time and effort into their BIM databases, much of the foundation is already going into place. However, with so much riding on a single system, there are more expectations — both verbal and written — that go with such an important part of the project. In this discussion, the BIM technologist at HMC architects will go over critical aspects of contract-specified BIM, and data requirements for effective collaboration, contract compliance and handoff. Also, the VDC manager at Kitchell Contractors will discuss how to execute and adapt expectations within the BIM Execution Plan as projects progress, including disruptions in the traditional flow of responsibility, shifting ownership of data in the model environment, and overall culture of increased expectation and ownership to deliver a high intensity, but better coordinated project.
