ENR Mountain States, working in concert with other regional ENR publications and editors across the U.S., has selected its Design Firms of the Year for 2018. This year, they are Van Boerum & Frank Associates Inc., Salt Lake City, for the Intermountain area; and Martin/Martin Inc. Consulting Engineers, Lakewood, Colo., for Colorado, Wyoming and the Dakotas.

Design Firms of the Year are chosen by a vote of the regional ENR editors from around the country based upon a carefully selected group of finalists.

Van Boerum & Frank Associates Inc.

Mechanical/Consulting Engineers

Van Boerum & Frank Associates was founded in Utah in 1972 as a mechanical engineering firm and has now grown to 18 principals with more than 100 employees in four regional offices in Utah and Arizona. The firm is a full-service consulting engineer headquartered in Salt Lake City.

The firm has worked on dozens on high-profile projects across the region, including several Best Projects winners in the Mountain States region. Among them:

  • Beverley Taylor Sorenson Center for the Arts (Project of the Year for 2017)
  • Idaho Falls LDS Temple

Martin/Martin Inc. Consulting Engineers

Martin/Martin Inc. Consulting Engineers has been performing structural, civil and investigative engineering since the 1940s. It has a staff of more than 200 professionals working from the firm’s six offices—in Cheyenne, Albuquerque, Northern California, and three locations across Colorado, including Avon, Fort Collins and its Lakewood headquarters.

In addition to transportation and water infrastructure, the firm’s portfolio spans a wide variety of market sectors, from large institutional and commercial projects to industrial, manufacturing, sports venues and residential work. Recent notables include the new Colorado State University football stadium, Denver Broncos Training Center, the Charles Schwab Corporate Campus, DaVita Headquarters, Medical Center of the Rockies, St. Joseph Hospital, new bridges at Denver International Airport, the Denver Water Complex and McMurdo Station in Antarctica.
