While each regional ENR editor strives to notify firms individually about editorial opportunities in ENR’s regional publications, every so often an e-mail address is missed or a reminder doesn’t reach the intended recipient. The following guide is intended to provide an overview of current and upcoming editorial opportunities, rankings and call for entries in the regional editions.
The best way to keep up-to-date with upcoming editorial opportunities is by subscribing to and reading each region’s bi-weekly e-newsletter. Sometimes our email reminders come from different e-mail addresses at McGraw Hill. Here are some upcoming editorial opportunities you might be interested in. And remember, all of these—other than a modest entry fee for the Best Projects competition—are free. Unlike many other publications out there, ENR does not charge for editorial coverage.
Top Design Firms Ranking — Each ENR regional edition ranks the top design firms. You can access the survey for all regions here: https://enrsurveys.opinioninsight.com/survey/html.pro?ID=126 . The deadline is March 24 for firms in the Mountain States. See the link for deadlines in other regions. All design specialties (mechanical/electrical engineering, architecture, structural engineering, etc.) are invited to participate. Each region picks a firm as its “Design Firm of the Year.”
Top Contractors Ranking — ENR ranks the top contractors nationally and regionally as well. You can access the regional survey here:

Top Specialty Contractors Ranking — This is for contractors that specialize in trades such as concrete, electrical, demolition, excavation, etc. You can also participate if you self-perform these trades. One firm in each region is selected as the “Specialty Contractor of the Year,” based on a number of factors: revenue increase, sustainability, innovation and community service. This survey will go live in late Feb. or early March, at:

Best Projects Competition — We seek entries for our annual awards program, which is dedicated to honoring the best construction projects and the companies that designed and built them Entries begin in May and run until early July. Projects can compete in 20 specialized categories, ranging from airports to sports/entertainment. ENR Global Best Projects — Projects can be located anywhere in the world, including the U.S. Globally diverse project teams are encouraged to submit. You can find out more info here:

Top 20 Under 40 — Profiles of up-and-coming leaders in the design and construction industry. Call for entries goes out in the fall. The article appears in the first issue of the new year. The Mountain States winners for 2014 have been announced (see related blog on this page.)
Online User Photo Galleries — you can upload your own photos in one of our three online user galleries: A) Project Photos – construction photos, renderings or completed project photos B) People photos – new hires, promotions or other people news C) Events – banquets, association events, conferences. Top 25 Project Starts — Each regional publication ranks the largest starts of the previous year, usually limited to projects over $30 million in the Mountain States. The list is compiled via research and input from the construction community in February. You can e-mail me directly at mark.shaw@mhfi.com if you have a project over $30 million that broke ground in 2013. Also, watch for an emailed survey for Top Starts arriving in your in-box soon.
