After many months of planning and preparation, Mountain States Construction magazine is finally here. The new publication is the combination of the former Colorado Construction and Intermountain Contractor magazines. Together, we now offer comprehensive coverage of the entire mountain region, specifically: Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Utah and Wyoming.
With the new publication, we are also launching a new and improved Website. We’ve added more bandwidth, which has created opportunities to give our readers more content in a more user-friendly way.
We have links not only to news stories and photos, but also to videos and slideshows. We’ve increased the presence of the Dodge Reports by allowing you to link directly to individual projects from the home page. The Daily Journal has earned its own blog space where content will be updated daily.
Perhaps the biggest editorial addition to the site is that there is more space to display news, features, rankings and opinions, as well as to promote and share content with our parent publications, Engineering News-Record and Architectural Record.
In the first issue of Mountain States Construction, we launch a new section called “Design Matters.” This section is devoted to the region’s fast-growing design industry and will track the Personalities & Practices that create some of the mountain region’s most exciting and challenging projects. This month begins a series of profiles on founders of successful design firms, with a feature on Boise-based CSHQA.
As you click through the pages, you will notice that not much else has changed. Intermountain and Colorado readers will still find all the news components they have come to enjoy, including a local industry calendar, project and people news as well as local features on firms and projects separated into state sections.
This month’s Intermountain section highlights the 2009 Best of award winners. The annual Best of is a competition to determine the best projects completed by firms in Utah, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. This year, we received 104 submissions — which our jury narrowed to 36 winners in 23 categories.
We also introduce an important new award that will be given annually by the staff at Mountain States Construction magazine. The first annual Legacy Award is given to John Cameron, founder of Cameron Construction. Criteria for this award include professional success, mentoring, service and industry and community impact on many levels.
In the Colorado & Wyoming section, the editors at Mountain States Construction and The Daily Journal selected a handful of key stories, projects and people that dominated Colorado and Wyoming construction industry news in 2009. The section also features the University of Wyoming’s stadium expansion project and highlights the scope of two new wind farms built to serve the residents of Wyoming.
