McGraw-Hill Construction today announced the winners of its second annual Best of the Best Awards, a national competition that recognizes design and construction excellence based on the winners of McGraw-Hill Construction’s 10 regional publications’ Best of 2009 Awards.
Among the winners was the River Point at Sheridan project submitted to Colorado Construction by Aurora-based Adolfson & Peterson Construction. River Point at Sheridan is a 125-acre brownfield redevelopment, revitalizing land that had previously been useful only as a landfill, mitigating unsafe environmental conditions and converting it into a thriving retail district and a golf course for the city of Sheridan and the southwest Denver area.
The redevelopment site is situated on two historic, unlined landfills, including the Arapco Landfill and Herbertson’s Pay Dump. The first phase removed a substantial amount of the waste to provide a sound subsurface for constructing roads, utilities and buildings.
“Aesthetically pleasing and technically challenging, this year’s Best of the Best award winners illustrate the finest achievements of 2009 in design and construction,” said Janice L. Tuchman, editor-in-chief of Engineering News-Record. “We are very pleased to showcase these award winners for the second year.”
Out of 273 regional winners, an independent jury of construction professionals selected 76 national finalists and 24 national winners in 23 categories. Projects were judged on innovation, safety, contribution to the community, aesthetic quality, and craftsmanship.
