The Southeast's construction industry appears to be picking up considerable steam lately, from Miami to Atlanta, and from Raleigh, N.C., down to Tampa. Residential construction is coming back across the region, and owners appear more apt to move forward with planned projects.

Based upon the results of this year's Southeast Top Design Firms survey, though, it appears that the region's architects and engineers are mostly proceeding through the improved market conditions at a steady pace. In other words, with one notable exception, the Southeast's design firms' collective 2014 revenue total was in line from that of a year ago.

year ago, for instance, 115 firms reported collective revenue of just over $3 billion. This year, 113 Southeast engineers and architects responded to the Top Design Firms survey, with roughly $3.3 billion in regional revenue between them.

That notable exception? AECOM, which acquired URS Corp. in 2014, in an estimated $6-billion deal, as ENR reported. As a result, AECOM's Southeast revenue increased notably, providing a significant portion of the collective boost represented by this year's uptick in revenue figures.

It will take some additional analysis to discern the movers and shakers on this year's Top Design Firms ranking, which will publish in the May 18 print edition of ENR Southeast. For now, here's an alphabetical list of this year's survey respondents.
