Coming soon in ENR Southwest’s May issue is the annual Top Design Firms ranking. Along with the charts showing the largest firms by revenue, we also select one firm as our Design Firm of the Year based on a variety of other factors, including sustainability, community involvement and quality of work.

As voted on by the ENR regional editors across the U.S. ENR Southwest’s 2012 Design Firm of the Year is: SmithGroupJJR!

Operating since 1853, this architecture and engineering firm opened its Phoenix office in 1973 and has been responsible for some of Arizona’s and the southwest’s most distinctive projects. But it’s the commitment to sustainability that really makes SmithGroupJJR stand out. Projects such as the Saguaro and Physical Sciences buildings at Mesa Community College, ASU College of Nursing, Papago Gateway Center and Sundt Corporate Headquarters are among the firm’s LEED Gold certified projects. The Phoenix office also has one Platinum project under its belt and is pursuing several others.
