ENR's Northwest special edition has announced the winners of its first annual Best Projects Safety Award. Safety has always been a key criteria in ENR's Best Projects awards -- in fact, it makes up 20% of the score for every project that is judged, regardless of category. Due to popular demand, we decided to showcase excellence in safety practices by highlighing projects that went above and beyond in safety.

And the winner is... Central Washington Hospital Patient Tower, submitted by HDR Architecture. This new six-story patient tower adds 190,000 sq ft and 176 patient rooms to the existing Central Washington Hospital. HDR and general contractor Mortenson Construction finished the project 10 weeks ahead of schedule and $7 million under budget, without a single lost time accident or OSHA recordable incident during nearly 500,000 man hours
.

There were many outstanding projects among the top contenders in safety, and the judges chose two award of merit winners: Oregon State University, Student Success Center, submitted by Howard S. Wright, and the New Outpatient Specialty Clinic at VA Medical Center Vancouver, submitted by Kevcon Inc.

You can read more about these projects and their safety performance in the special editon of ENR Northwest later this year. Awards will also be presented during an awards banquet along with the California winners in San Francisco on Dec. 6th. Visit www.bestprojects2012.com for info and registration.
