ENR Texas & Louisiana is proud to announce the winner of our inaugural Legacy Award: TDIndustries’ Louis Benjamin (Ben) Houston, Jr.

We’ve added this new program to our awards line up in order to recognize industry veterans with many years of experience and long lists of contributions to their profession and community. In choosing this year’s recipients, ENR’s editors weighed several criteria, including each nominee’s history of innovation, outstanding career highlights and an engagement within the industry and the surrounding community.

Ben Houston is a member of TDIndustries’ Board of Directors. He joined the firm in 1961, and continues to be an active mentor to many in the industry.

Houston was a key partner in growing TD from a small 31-employee air conditioning distribution company with $3 million in revenue in 1961, to the 2,000-employee-owned, $450 million mechanical construction and service firm it is today. Houston was also instrumental in moving TD into the high-rise commercial construction business.

In addition, Houston served on both the local and national levels of the Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC). During his second term as president of ABC of North Texas, he was instrumental in merging the Associated General Contractors (AGC) and ABC Chapters of North Texas into one stronger association, TEXO, with affiliation with both AGC and ABC National.

Houston will be honored at ENR Texas & Louisiana’s 2014 Best Projects luncheon in Houston on December 18. Also, be sure to check out an in-depth profile highlighting his career and achievements that will be included in the February 23, 2015 issue of ENR Texas & Louisiana.
