Another integral part of ENR’s annual Best Projects competition is its Excellence in Safety Award, now in its second year as part of the program. While safety has always been a part of the main competition’s entry criteria, ENR’s editors decided that safety was more than deserving of its own award.

This year, ENR Texas & Louisiana is singling out another project and recognizing it for its outstanding safety record and job-site procedures.

For the safety award, we implemented a separate judging process from the regular competition. This year’s safety judges were Billy Gibbons, Global Client Manager at JMJ Associates, and Steve Trickel, Sr. Director, Safety & Health at JV Industrial Companies, Ltd.

Our safety judges reviewed nearly 50 projects on a variety of elements, such as the project’s safety program, OSHA recordable incident rate, lost time accident rate as well as total man hours on the job.

For ENR Texas & Louisiana’s “Best Safety” award, our judges have selected The John W. Turk, Jr. Power Plant Project in Fulton, Ark., submitted by CB&I. This project was also named Best Project in the Energy/Industrial category.

Another five projects were also selected to receive safety awards of merit.

ENR Texas & Louisiana will feature more about these projects, along with our other Best Projects winners in the December 16 print edition. Our safety winners will also be recognized at the Texas & Louisiana Best Projects Luncheon on Dec. 18 in Dallas. Be sure to register online for the event here:
