Think fast: What do big projects at Madison Square Garden, Delta Airlines at John F. Kennedy Airport, and a solar field at Tinton Falls, N.J. have in common? If you are a close follower of specialty contractor firms in the tri-state region, then you might have guessed that Queens-based Unity International Group has contracts at all three. But that is just one of the reasons that the regional ENR editors have picked this firm as ENR New York’s Top Specialty Contractor of 2012.

With 2011 sales of $179.70 million, Unity is the fourth-largest firm participating in our annual survey of specialty contractors in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. This is the second year that the firm has held onto that fourth-place position but it has placed high in our rankings since, at least, 2008.

The firm’s activity in this region includes new commercial construction work, as well as commercial retrofit, electrical maintenance and critical systems projects. Unity also gives back to the community with contributions to various groups including the Ronald McDonald House in New York and The Nephcure Foundation.

Read more about this firm in ENR New York’s September issue, which will also list the top-50 specialty contractors that participated in this year’s survey. The issue will also provide an overview of this market.

For now, join us in congratulating Unity.
