Design firm RNL recently announced the addition of Jeff Anglada as Senior Project Manager for their Los Angeles office. Anglada joins RNL from the Los Angeles office of Gensler where he served as Project Manager on the Broad Museum project in Los Angeles as well as the Shenyang Performance Center in Shenyang, China.

“With a track record of building cohesive internal project teams while maintaining open, productive lines of communication with clients, Jeff will only serve to improve efficiencies on RNL’s projects in the LA region and beyond,” said Aaron Kelly, associate principal for RNL’s Los Angeles office, in a press release.

I asked Anglada about his first order of business in his new position and he told me that after helping shore up the busy regional office he is going to help RNL's strong interior's studio enter the Los Angeles Market. After this, he says he will focus on any civic and commercial work that comes through the office.

A couple of these projects include RNL’s design of a new LAPD Training Facility and adjacent Academy Renovation, which are in the very early stages of architectural drawings and planning, with not much project information available at this time. Anglada is serving as project manager on both projects.

Jeff, who has more than 14 years of global experience in the design industry, has worked in a variety of sectors, including commercial, higher education, cultural facilities, multifamily and urban residential projects. Tapping into this knowledge, I asked him about some of the current hot markets.

“Thanks to the 2008 recession, there is a ton of built-up demand for mixed-use/residential in Los Angeles, which has continued to add population at a healthy pace,” he says. “I think that will be the market driver for the next few years, followed by commercial and retail.”

As far as new sectors on the rise, he says “creative office space” continues to be a buzz word in the commercial market. “As companies become younger and more nimble, I think we'll continue to see firms cater to this emerging market.”

Regarding new design trends, Anglada says he sees civic and education buildings continuing to move away from the traditional design/bid/build method of delivery in favor of design/build models. “Although many architects look at this as bad news, I think it will help the market recover as it does give the client much more control over construction costs,” he says.

Prior to working with Gensler, Jeff was with the Los Angeles office of Fentress where he lent his project management expertise to the LAX International Terminal Expansion. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University and is currently pursuing a Masters in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University.
