A delegation of 20 Chinese Ministry of Transportation members are heading to the campus of Cal State University Long Beach for a week of lectures and meetings on the topic of emergency transportation management. Attendees to the October 14 - 18 event will include members of provincial or municipal Department of Transportation deputy directors or similar from about 15 provinces of China. 

"This is a group of Chinese government employees - administrators and engineers who want to learn about [United States] transportation emergency management," says Anthea Xu, Program Manager for the university's global international training program

The lecture speakers will be an array of transportation engineers and experts such as Basem Muallem, Caltrans District 8 Director, as well as individuals from private companies. Discussion topics to be covered include:

• ·     Emergency Management System for Transportation Incidents; Information System for Transportation Emergency Management
• ·     Making and Implementing Emergency Response System for Transportation Incidents
• ·     Training for Transportation Emergency Management
• ·     Organization and coordination of maritime search and rescue
• ·     Cultural and Environmental Protection in Transportation Emergency Managment

Lecture times are Monday, October 14, 1:30 - 4:30pm; Wednesday, October 16, 9am - 12pm, and 1:30 - 4:30pm; Thursday, October 17, 9am - 12pm; and Friday, October 18, 1:30 - 4pm

The Lecture fee is $350 per lecture payable from the University to the lecturer. The lecture time is 2 to 3 hours each. The lecture language can be either English or Chinese. For more information on the transportation workshop, call  562. 985.5372.

The event is part of the Cal State Long Beach's global international training program for foreign groups, says Xu. She says the college hosts between 60 to 70 such groups each year, covering various topics from energy to city planning. She says the university is a certified training institute for the Chinese government.
