A big solar player in California with an impressive installation milestone of 150MW of solar PV to date along with its extensive community outreach efforts and showing an 81% increase in revenue in this year’s Top Specialty Contractors ranking, San Jose’s Cupertino Electric Inc. (CEI) has been named Specialty Contractor of the Year by ENR California.

Working with Southern California Edison and Pacific Gas & Electric on a number of solar projects via its Energy Alternatives Division, the firm, founded in 1954, has also moved out of state for other projects, including data center projects in Texas and Oregon.

Other high-profile projects that CEI was involved in include the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission headquarters (LEED platinum), CalTech Schlinger Lab in Pasadena and the Lodi Energy Center. CEI was also recently named electrical contractor for the new San Francisco 49ers stadium project in Santa Clara.

CEI last year was honored with top philanthropy awards from Save the Bay (Corporate Bay Steward award) and shelter network charity InnVision (Spirit of InnVision award), and has donated more than 1% of its annual profit to charitable organizations located throughout the U.S.

The firm was also named Generation Supplier of the Year by PG&E for 2011. PG&E’s Supply Chain organization says it selected Cupertino Electric for the award based on the company’s strategic thinking, safety, quality, customer focus, diversity and commitment to sustainability.
