Things are starting to heat up in Anaheim for the city’s and OCTA’s long-awaited $184-million Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) project, with the city set to solicit construction bids in June for the first construction contract for the shell and enclosure.
According to OCTA spokeswoman Laura Scheper, the construction scope of work includes supply, fabrication and erection of structural steel, glass curtain walls and ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) cladding. She says the city intends to award the shell and enclosure contract to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, which will include the requirement that curtain wall and ETFE cladding work shall be performed by the prime contractor or sub-contractors who were recently pre-qualified by the city for that work.
ETFE pre-qualified vendors include seele Inc., New York; Vector Foiltec, New York; and Novum Structures LLC, Menomonee Falls, Wis. Curtain wall pre-qualified vendors include seele Inc.; Novum Structures; Enclos Corp., Los Angeles; and Josef Gartner, Gundelfingen, Germany.
A Parsons Brinckerhoff/HOK partnership was contracted in 2009 for the architectural/engineering design of the ARTIC project. Planned for LEED platinum certification, the center will serve as a connectivity gateway and mixed-use destination for the region on a prominent 16-acre site owned by OCTA and the city. ARTIC is scheduled to open in 2014.
A contractor outreach conference in advance of the invitation for bids (IFB) will be held at the Anaheim West Tower, Gordon Hoyt Conference Center, 201 South Anaheim Blvd., on Thursday, May 5 at 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for potential bidders to receive a presentation on the scope of work related to the future IFB. Attendance at the contractor outreach conference is not mandatory, but recommended. The IFB will be issued Wednesday, May 25, 2011 and bid documents will be available for pick up at the Anaheim City Engineer’s office at City Hall, 200 South Anaheim Blvd. A subsequent pre-bid conference will be held on Wednesday, June 1 at 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. also at the Gordon Hoyt Conference Center. Attendance at the pre-bid conference is not mandatory, but recommended, according to the city.
