Projects were submitted for review. Judges made their determinations. And the result is an impressive list of 34 winning projects out of 116 entries in this year’s Best Projects contest.

For the first time, projects this year were also submitted from Washington, Oregon, Hawaii and Alaska to ENR California’s competition. Judges picked a top winner in each category, along with Award of Merit winners in many of the categories.

More information about each of these projects will be included in the Dec. 5 issue of ENR California. Also, these projects and the teams that built and designed them will be honored at the magazine’s annual Best Projects awards breakfast, scheduled for Monday, Dec. 12 at the Mission Bay Conference Center at UCSF beginning at 8 a.m. For details and to register, go here.

Judges for this year’s Best Projects competition were Andrea Cohen Gehring, DLR Group WWCOT; Michael Gemmill, Nabih Youssef Associates; Dimitris Klapsis, Studio dnk; John Nunan, Unger Construction; John Saliba, FTR International; Melody Spradlin, Dome Construction; Peter Tuma, Taisei Construction; Ying Wang, Okapi Architects; and Ken Wenham, Roebbelen.

In addition to the 34 winning projects, judges picked one Region’s Best Project, which this year is the Kravis Center at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont. The project consists of the construction of a five-level, 162,000-sq-ft academic and administrative facility, which now serves as the western gateway to the campus. The overall project includes offices, classrooms, seminar rooms, an underground parking structure and outdoor courtyards. The project was submitted by the general contractor, Bernards; the lead designer was Rafael Vinoly Architects.
