Nearly four years ago, the ENR franchise inaugurated an annual competition known as Top 20 Under 40 to honor the contributions of rising industry stars, both to their professions and communities. In so doing, we also presented the industry with a glimpse of its future, given the accomplishments and ambitions of the program's young honorees.

Now we'd like to bookend the program with a competition that looks back. Later this year, we'll be naming recipients of ENR's Legacy Award, a program that honors a lifetime of achievements among construction industry members. Each of ENR's regional publications, including ENR Midwest, currently is accepting submissions for the program.

For Midwest, we'll be accepting entries for professionals based in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Professionals either can nominate themselves or nominate colleagues. ENR editors also may submit nominations.

ENR’s staff of regional editors will evaluate submissions for each region, including the Midwest, and select a single winner for each.

All nominations should include:

  • Name, age, employment status (employed or retired), and title(s)/role(s).

  • A resume outlining major professional accomplishments, including innovations, initiatives and involvement in noteworthy projects.

  • A letter of reference from the nominator or a colleague who can attest to the professional's accomplishments and contributions to the industry and community.

  • White papers, features, news articles or other materials addressing the professional's contributions and achievements.

  • A photo of the nominee.

  • A summary of ancillary activities, including mentoring, instruction and community activities, well as any offices held in community and industry organizations.

The deadline for ENR Midwest Legacy Award submissions is October 1. Please e-mail your submission to ENRMIDWEST@MHFI.COM. The Midwest region's honoree will be recognized at ENR Midwest's Best Projects Awards Breakfast in Chicago on November 20.

Best of luck! We're excited to learn more about industry professionals you believe have forged a lasting legacy.
