What other Midwest contractor has been simultaneously honored for its work on a roller coaster and a Salvation Army center? It's among the reasons the Milwaukee-based Daily Reporter recentlynamed Miron Construction Co. Builder of the Year, though ENR Midwest has reasons of its own for designating the Neenah, Wis.-based firm as the region's Contractor of the Year.

First are its revenues. The firm continues to gain momentum against strong economic headwinds, and 2011 was no exception, as readers will see when ENR Midwest publishes it's annual list of the region's Top Contractors in its July 23 issue.

There also is its commitment to sustainable, energy efficient design. In February a coalition of businesses led by Miron and Johnson Controls lobbied the Wisconsin Legislature to step up funding for energy-efficient design on the heels of a report indicating the state was losing ground to its Midwestern neighbors.

Miron is a firm that practices what it preaches. Last year, it implemented a corporate-wide program that integrates green building with business-management practices and operation – an initiative extending from business practices to practices in the home. Employees are on track to collectively reduce their electricity usage by 18% relative to typical households. In so doing they will achieve savings of more than $100,000 and a reduction of 1.2 million pounds of carbon emissions.

The firm is not only noteworthy for the breadth of its projects – which range from a high-tech manufacturing facility for Plexus Corp. to renovations to Lambeau Field, home to the Green Bay Packers – but its pioneering use of new technologies, including iPads, to execute them.

On the strength of these accomplishments, Miron will be profiled in the July 23 edition of ENR Midwest, along with coverage of the Midwest's Top Contractors.
