Bertrand van Ee and Erik Oostwegel have been named chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of Royal Haskoning DHV, a Netherlands-based engineer set to be formed this summer in a merger of Dutch firms DHV Group, Amersfoort, and Royal Haskoning, Nijmegen, according to executives on Feb. 29. Van Ee and Oostwegel are the respective chairmen of those companies. Royal Haskoning DHV, to be based in Amersfoort, would be one of Europe's largest, independently owned consultants, with about $925 million in 2011 revenue, it reported. Van Ee will be located in Amersfoort, and Oostwegel will work primarily in Rotterdam, says spokeswoman M.C.J. Alders-Feuerberg.The new company would have about 8,000 employees in 100 global offices, with about 5,500 in Europe, 1,400 in the Middle East-North Africa region, 900 in Asia-Australia and about 200 in North America, she told ENR. About 800 would remain in Nijmegen. "Size matters nowadays," the spokeswoman said. "The merger realizes the ambitions of both founding companies to be an industry leader backed by a financially sound balance sheet."
