McCarthy Building Cos. celebrated the topping out of the North Tower vertical expansion at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center in Bartow County near Atlanta on March 27. The 43,122-sq-ft, two-floor vertical expansion to the existing three-story tower will house 20 beds for short stay patients at the hospital. The project also includes the renovation and 11,000-sq-ft expansion of the existing sterile processing department, which required close coordination and the use of a mobile sterilizing unit in order to keep the hospital’s sterile processing department 100% functional throughout construction. Piedmont Cartersville is one of 22 hospitals in the Piedmont Healthcare system serving the Atlanta region. McCarthy, which was awarded the Cartersville project in June 2022, has completed more than $50 million and 124,000 sq ft of projects for Piedmont in the past five years, including in Atlanta, Athens, Columbus, Newton and Rockdale.
