Vertex Energy Inc. is planning to convert the hydrocracking unit at its refinery in Saraland to produce renewable diesel fuel from organic waste and vegetable oils while continuing to supply conventional fuels. Upon completion of the project, the refinery will commence production of approximately 10,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel, increasing to 14,000 bpd by mid-year 2023. The refinery will continue to supply conventional fuels to the regional market at current rates. Worley USA has been chosen to provide design, engineering and procurement services. Haldor Topsoe, which provides renewable-diesel process technology, will lead the technology implementation of the conversion. Work is expected to start in January 2023 and be completed by April 2023. The project is valued at between $90 million and $100 million. Vertex Energy Inc., 1331 Gemini St., Houston, Texas, 77058. DR#22-00567269.
