An unexpectedly long rainy period seemed certain to overwhelm the high school’s new stormwater protection plan. The team augmented the existing site drainage network with a temporary onsite treatment facility and retention basin, which treated and cleaned 10 million gallons of water while keeping the baseline structural steel erection schedule and site hardscape activities on schedule. Another challenge was a mandated athletic fields redesign, which would have extended sitework and necessitated expensive earthwork. Dropping the athletic field site by one-half inch generated sufficient material to meet most of the sitework needs without affecting access for disabled users.
