An unexpectedly long rainy period seemed certain to overwhelm the high school’s new stormwater protection plan. The team augmented the existing site drainage network with a temporary onsite treatment facility and retention basin, which treated and cleaned 10 million gallons of water while keeping the baseline structural steel erection schedule and site hardscape activities on schedule. Another challenge was a mandated athletic fields redesign, which would have extended sitework and necessitated expensive earthwork. Dropping the athletic field site by one-half inch generated sufficient material to meet most of the sitework needs without affecting access for disabled users.

Although the entire school was scheduled for completion in summer 2020, the owner requested early occupancy of the Administration Building so that staff could prepare for the summer semester. Although the coronavirus pandemic reduced the available workforce and forced changes in jobsite workflows, the project team adapted the remaining schedule to complete the Administration Building nearly six weeks early.
