Construction of wind power in China, offshore and onshore, nearly tripled in 2020 over the previous year, hitting a new record of nearly 72 GW, according to data released Jan. 20 by the country’s National Energy Administration.
Statistics also showed solar power installation growth last year to 48.2 GW after two years of decline, as the world’s largest source of greenhouse gas emissions seeks to make a dent in transitioning away from fossil fuels. Others also cite expiring government subsidies that were to end this year as a catalyst for the buildup.
