Georgia GEDIA Automotive Group is planning to construct an automotive components manufacturing plant at Carbondale Business Park near Dalton. The project scope includes construction of a 180,000-sq-ft building and equipment foundations; installation of a hot-forming line and automated welding equipment; and purchase and installation of overhead cranes, conveyors, chillers, racking and other supporting equipment. SSOE Group has been selected to provide design engineering services for the project. Construction is expected to begin in the late third or fourth quarter of 2020. Germany-based GEDIA will use the plant to produce side-impact beams, chassis parts, bumpers and other structural components for electric vehicles. The estimated EPC cost is $85 million. LouisianaRenewable Energy Group Inc. is considering expanding its biorefinery in Geismar. The project scope includes construction of equipment foundations and the purchase and installation of feedstock receiving, handling and pretreatment equipment as well as reactors, process vessels, storage tanks and marine-loading and flow-control equipment. The plant’s production capacity would increase from 75 million gallons per year of renewable hydrocarbon diesel, naphtha and liquefied petroleum gas to 225 million gallons per year.
