Pulse: Project News for the Week of September 30, 2019
California The City of Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners has selected HDR to perform the final design for the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility Project. It aims to reconfigure the 171-acre facility to allow trains up to 10,000 ft long to be loaded and unloaded at on-dock rail facilities at marine terminals, streamline rail operations, remove bottlenecks and reduce the need for local truck trips. It will eliminate the existing railroad crossing at the Ninth Street and Pico Avenue intersection and reconfigure existing tracks to allow trains to directly connect to the Alameda Corridor. HDR will work with sub-consultant Moffatt & Nichol on the project, which is scheduled to be completed in three phases, with the first phase expected to be completed by 2024. The project is valued at $870 million. Port of Long Beach Harbor Dept., Attn: Lee Peterson, Media Relations Manager, 4801 Airport Plaza, Long Beach, 90815. DR#18-00816275.
