The North Carolina Turnpike Authority continues to move forward with design work for the Mid-Currituck Toll Bridge project in Currituck. Estimated at nearly $385 million, the seven-mile project will deliver a new structure over Currituck Sound and across Maple Swamp, connecting the mainland at US 158 near Aydlett and the Outer Banks. The project, which is intended to reduce hurricane evacuation times for the area, is scheduled for bidding and construction later this year. Currituck Development Group, Coral Gables, Fla., is the private developer for the toll bridge. North Carolina Turnpike Authority, 1578 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, 27699. DR#94-00595528.
