Home » MBTA Crews Restore Blue Line Service in Boston Following Fire and Flood
Service resumed on March 18 for the Boston MBTA Blue Line following disruption from a fire that raged for two days at an East Boston casket company, forcing evacuation of 150 homes. Efforts to combat the five-alarm fire, still under investigation, resulted in significant flooding along the Blue Line track bed in Orient Heights, damaging signal and power equipment. The transit authority deployed equipment to pump water in the track bed and vehicle yard. MBTA crews worked around the clock through the weekend to remediate the flooding and make repairs to critical track and power infrastructure. The Blue Line extends six miles from downtown Boston under Boston Harbor to the inner North Shore and includes an Airport Station with bus service to Logan Airport.
