Iowa Iowa State University is planning to construct a new veterinary diagnostic lab that will be between 83,000 sq ft and 85,000 sq ft. Two independent audits of the existing lab building conducted in 2012 listed insufficient space, air handling and structural limitations as concerns. The project is valued at $100 million. Mississippi Rye Development LLC is planning to carry out the Arkabutla Lake Hydroelectric Project, which will entail adding 5.1 MW of hydropower generation to the Arkabutla Dam on the Coldwater River. The project will call for installing a 325-ft-long by 15.5-ft-dia steel liner within the existing concrete conduit outlet tunnel; a 50-ft-long by 25-ft-wide steel-lined reinforced concrete bifurcation at the end of the existing conduit outlet tunnel to divide the flows between the existing stilling basin and the project’s new powerhouse; a 272-ft-long by 12-ft-dia steel penstock; an 83-ft-high by 60-ft-wide by 50-ft-deep forebay; an 80-ft-long by 46-ft-wide concrete powerhouse that has two vertical Kaplan generating units with a total installed capacity of 5.1 MW; a 200-ft-long by 85-ft-wide tailrace channel; a substation; and a 4,286-ft-long transmission line consisting of a 1,574-ft-long, 4.16-kV buried line from the powerhouse to the substation and a 2,712-ft-long, 12.5-kV overhead line from the substation to an existing utility-owned distribution line.
