Michigan Highland Copper Co. is planning to construct a copper ore processing facility and an underground mine in Gogebic County. The Copperwood project scope includes design and construction of multiple surface buildings, ore and concentrate load-out and tailings management facilities, a 6,000-metric-tons-per-day process plant, access/haul roads and equipment foundations; purchase and erection of structural steel; and purchase and installation of a ball mill, conveyors, screens and concentrate regrind and concentrate thickening, filtration, tailings disposal, solvent extraction, dewatering, mine ventilation, dust suppression and load-out equipment. The mine will have the capacity to produce 28,000 metric tons of copper ore (chalcocite) over a 10.7-year life. Construction is expected to begin in January 2019.
