Alabama The Alabama Dept. of Transportation is planning to construct additional lanes along a 4.8-mile section of Interstate 59 in Tuscaloosa, from south of County Road 1900 (Black Warrior Parkway) interchange to State Route 6/U.S. 82. The project is valued at $63.1 million. Alabama Dept. of Transportation, 1409 Coliseum Blvd., Montgomery, 36110. DR#11-565650.
Maryland The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission is planning to construct a submerged channel intake at the Potomac Water Filtration Plant in Potomac. The current Potomac River raw water intake structure is near the shoreline and is adversely impacted during storm events by sediment runoff from local tributary inflows. The new proposed intake structure would be submerged and located approximately 500 ft from the Maryland shoreline. It will also provide an additional barrier against drinking water contamination (particularly Giardia cysts and Cryptosporidium oocysts). The project is valued at $83.1 million.
