Council members in Commerce City, Colo., opened the doors in late May to the city’s $60-million recreation center. The 108,000-sq-ft Bison Ridge Recreation Center includes an indoor pool, multicourt gymnasium with an elevated walking and jogging track, a 10,000-sq-ft gymnastics room, a weights and fitness area, dance and aerobics studio, a rooftop fitness deck, a 300-person community room and the largest collection of publicly funded sculptures in the city. Designed as a prairie gateway, the building has an exterior facade with natural stone, wood paneling and standing-seam metal panels. The two-level lobby includes a fireplace and lounge area with access to the building’s many activities. Perkins + Will Global designed the center, which was built by Pinkard Construction.
This spring, JHL Constructors hosted its inaugural St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser at Max Taps in Highlands Ranch, Colo. The event raised more than $30,500 for childhood cancer research. Less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s budget is dedicated solely to childhood cancer research. St. Baldrick’s Foundation helps fill the gap in research funding.
