North Carolina Duke University is considering converting the natural gas-fired boiler plant on its campus in Durham to a biogas-fired facility. The project scope includes purchase and erection of structural steel and retrofit of boilers. The university is also considering constructing an anaerobic digester to produce biogas using swine waste as feedstock. The digester project scope includes construction of building space and waste receiving facilities, digester tanks and foundations, purchase and erection of structural steel and purchase and installation of an anaerobic digestion system. The project will also include waste receiving, processing, and odor-control equipment, and gas separation and purification systems. Pennsylvania Talen Energy Corporation is planning to repower its two-unit, 1,504 MW, coal-fired power plant, the Montour Power Plant, in Washingtonville, to a coal- and natural gas-fired facility. The project scope includes construction of equipment foundations; mechanical, electrical and structural upgrades; purchase and erection of structural steel and fuel storage tanks; retrofit of the coal-fired boilers; and purchase and installation of combustion and steam turbines, heat recovery steam and electrical generators, transformers, gas piping, and flow and emissions control equipment. WorleyParsons Ltd. has been selected to provide detailed design engineering services for the project. Talen Energy will manage the construction in house. Construction is expected to begin in 2019.
